Griot Calendar 2004

The tradition of the Griot goes back to pre-European West Africa. Each soci-political entity had a person who was the oral keeper of the history of that unit. Through stories, songs, dances, etc., the Griot would tell the people of their past. Through there was not written history, these Griot tales were quite accurate.

Even though Griot were not royal, they were men who received special treatment. They were looked upon as men of wisdom, and artisans in their own realm.

It is the hope of the editor of this calendar that these facts elucidated would do as the Griot tales, that is help to tell the person reading these notes-something about who they are, and what is their destinies.
